It Came From Beyond- Halloween Show

Ive been busy making some masks. These will be on view at the Skummi and Co. show this Halloween night (Saturday) at 320 Lexington Avenue #2, (between 38th and 39th) from 8:30-dawn. All hell will be present. Masks will materialize here soon. Happy Halloween.

So ive been painting some plein air landscapes in montauk to pass the time not surfing, and I am currently working on some screenprint designs for a poster and t-shirt for the Main Beach Paddle 2009 benefit in memory of my mom, as well as design interpretations for Tom Cody Design, a firm I hope to do some work for in NYCizzle. Sketches and final products to be posted soon, gonna need a scanner at some point. I promise this isnt a text only blog, I cant even read.

I took the most awesome cliche roadtrip to california with some awesome buds and had a grand old time, so I feel I must return to art making and getting something done which will in turn appear here when the time is right. dear dear subscribers.

The Forlorn Ships

A few more forlorn ships here from my portfolio collection. This series has evolved from the concept of the ship as a metaphor for expectations and regrets that manifest themselves in personality. I am interested in psychological states and their ability to bind or liberate, and the consequences therein. Many more to come, as I am still working on the website-scottbluedorn.com.

I graduate(d). And Ive been invited to show some of my collage work at Skummi and Co.,a prestigious midtown gallery with a few fine fellows. I will now work prodigiously to create a few more pieces, all transfer based. Also, the open studios were great thanks to all that came.

Portfolio Ships

Im proud of this one here, from my portfolio series of forlorn ships. Ive hit upon something here that I'm going to continue until it just cant be done anymore. I find myself very attracted to the beauty of industrial and mechanical decay, especially in rendering the textures of oxidized metal and wood, and I continue to work some kind of a story into these. "Blame Not" is communicating the danger of misdirected hostility.

Reflections on Kurdistan

These are the beginnings of a series about the history of Kurdistan, a war torn region dissolved and annexed by Iraq under Saddam Hussein. I want to make a connection between the atrocities of Saddam and the present state of Iraq under US occupation, and the violence and beauty in between.

To view a breaking wave from below is an awesome visual experience, I tried to recreate the vacuous physics at work- the chain of energy, explosions of air bubbles, the imploding pocket of the tube folding in on itself seemingly in reverse, a relentless surge toward shore.
